South Korea trip 2 with Ang family - Day 3

29 September to 09 October 2013
Seoul, Jeju Island

Day 3, 1 October 2013, Tuesday
Jeju

It's Pre-wedding photoshoot day!
More of the day happenings here.

After the shoot, we met up with the rest and headed to this seafood restaurant for dinner, famous for their Mackerel and seafood/ abalone soup.
Quite a popular restaurant in Jeju, we even spotted Kim Jong Kook's photo!

Closes at 8/ 9pm, don't go there too late!
Their side dishes were very interesting! They had this marinated soft shell crabs that tasted raw so you just suck up the sweet tasting meat within - sashimi style! They also served small salted whole fishes that goes well with rice, else it would be sodium overload. Particularly liked the spinach but I didn't get many restaurants serving that. =/
Another love is the pearled brown rice served! Yum!
Of course, the main highlight is the seafood.
The sweet and savoury soup blown us away. You can taste the freshness of the seafood used and literally taste the sea in your mouth!

Both our shagged look after the shoot.

Here's a alternative itinerary planned for the rest while we go for our photoshoot!

South Korea trip 2 with Ang family - Day 2

29 September to 09 October 2013
Seoul, Jeju Island

Day 2, 30 September 2013, Monday
Seoul to Jeju

Our first breakfast in Korea was a good Paris Baguette meal at the outlet at our hostel.
NB ordered a good mix of pastries and we found our new love in korea - cheap and deliciously sinful cream puffs!
Prices are definitely cheaper than their counterparts in Singapore (what's new right? All brands balloon their product prices when retailing in Singapore. See Krispy Kreme saga)
Prices similar to Breadtalk and we couldn't find the much raved about milk pudding there. =/
Love bread but still trying to curb eating before the photoshoot!

As we only had a couple of hours to spare before our flight to Jeju in the evening, we headed to somewhere on most tourist's visit list in Korea - Palace.

Gyeongbokgong
Guard Changing Parade 10-3pm (Every top of the hr except Tue)
This should be the most visited Palace around.
As a couple of us visited the palace before and the rest wasn't that interested in walking palaces, we just took pictures outside, watched the guard changing parade and left.

Picture perfect day!
Blue and clear skies greeted us! Love how the picture colours turned out!
Praying that Jeju skies are like that too...
Got photo-bombed by a tourist alike. lolx!

Insadong
Subway Station: Anguk
The palace is very near to Insadong, a street with lots of shops selling little souvenirs and Korean culture memorabilia. An interesting walk as you check out the area while munching on some Korea street food.
Noted however that the street food aren't the cheapest around, tourist area I guess.

Too early, not much crowd and roadside stalls.
Trivia: Starbucks in Insadong is the only one branch in the Korea whose main sign is written in Korean.

Dung (or "Dong" in Korean) shaped Red bean filled pancake. Solid amount of filling!
This time round, tried the rice punch as it comes in a set. Sweet and you can taste the roasted rice fragrance, not bad.

 Gimpo Airport
Taking Jeju Air this time round.
Smooth flight, no frills.

Upon checking in, we looked around for food and settled with some Dunkin Donuts (after some contemplation).
No donuts for me before the photoshoot but I ate something sinful as well - cheesy burrito!
My first burrito ever and boy was it yummy!

Boarding our ride to Jeju!
Unfortunately, this picturesque blue sky didn't follow us to Jeju :(

Highly recommended.
Clean, spacious and convenient (near to shopping and food street).

Had our dinner (affordable!) at a random shop along the nearby shopping street (just next the Paris Baguette Cafe).

Day ended early as NB and I head back straight to bed to catch a good rest before the hectic Day 3 cum photoshoot day!

South Korea Trip 2 with Ang Family - Day 1

29 September to 09 October 2013
Seoul, Jeju Island

Day 1 - Singapore to Seoul
Date: 29 September, Sunday
Flight: Scoot (Scootalicious)
Time: 1.35pm

Finally a break and long awaited trip for our Pre-wedding photoshoot ;)

Woke up bright and early on Sunday and met up with Dad, Sis and the 2 little ones for their excursion to Changi Airport since Mum is away at Batam with her friends.
She knows how selfie!
Taught well by her mummy. LOL

The 2 noisy ones in the train and at Changi's foodcourt.

Checked in our luggage as we get ready to board at Terminal 2.
Bid goodbye to the little ones as they went off to play at the airport's playground.
Initial Luggage weight - 6.3kg!
One of the lightest @ the start!

 Transit: Taipei
Arrival at Incheon Airport: 10.35pm

First time onboard Scoot.
Comfy with sufficient leg room for a budget airline.

It was dark when we reached Incheon. Most of the shops were closing and we had to rush to purchase our T-monies and topped them up (all 9 pieces!) while we made a mad rush for the last (A'REX 인천국제공항철도) train to Hongik University station, the nearest AREX stop to Yeongdongpo Office Station where our hostel is located.

To all Free & Easy travelers to Seoul, do download this app which is really useful to help you navigate about.
You are able to get the timing of the trains, cost, info on the last trains, which way to take in the fastest time or the cheapest way and even which side of the train door will open at individual stations!

Thankfully, we managed to catch the last train, else, we would have to spend the night at the airport.
Tip: Try not to take this Scoot flight timing as it was a nerve wrecking experience having to "chiong" with everyone out of the plane and dash towards the train station with our luggage.

Glad we made it!

All our luggage and NB updating the combined travel funds.

The AREX train stopped at Hongik University but we couldn't make it the train transfer so we had to cab to the hostel.
All the train shutters at the station were closed and the 9 of us were the last humans around the station!

Love the cold air we felt the moment we stepped out of the station!
The hungry us then went to look for food at Hongdae area and settled on some fried chicken cause a lot of shops were closing and some didn't want to entertain the 9 of us =/

A popular fried chicken chain in Korea.
"Oppa" = Big brother
"Dak" = Chicken
Read on for more of the food.

The girls bought some street food that tasted like fried yong tau foo which cost ₩20,000 for a set!
Expensive but delicious I must say!

Took 3 cabs to Hi-Seoul Youth Hostel to check in.

Tip: If taking cabs in Korea, do prepare print-outs of the address (in Hangul) and phone number of the place so the cabbies can key in their GPS if unsure. Even with those equipped, we still faced some problems with them not knowing where the place is + some communication breakdown.

This Hostel is recommended for youngsters seeking for affordable/ budget accommodation in Seoul.
The rooms are modern, spacious, brightly lit and clean.
Definitely a comfortable stay.
Be prepared to walk and lug your luggage/ daily purchases quite a distance to and fro the nearest subway stations (10-15mins walk depending on your speed).
Nevertheless, it's home to a Paris Baguette outlet and near to our favourite KFC hunt (Charm Charm chicken - More on this in my other Korea post).

Having the yummy Oppadak KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) on day 1 in the hostel.
Damage: ₩29,000
Original and Sweet & Spicy!
Definitely the sweet & spicy one for me as the sauce adds a little oomph to the crispy and juicy meat.
The rest commented that these taste better than the original KFC!
I have to agree!

The hungry us quickly dug in. Finger licking good indeed.

And yes, we booked a dormitory good enough for 10 pax to stay, that explains the bunk beds.

End of Day 1

Pre-wedding Photoshoot in Korea

1 Oct 2013 - Korea Pre- Wedding Photoshoot
Jeju-do

An early Tuesday morning for us as we got out of bed to meet Yumi at approx 7am.

Us on the cab to the bridal shop again!

Looking tired.
Photo blurred due to the cling wrap securing my new phone! =P

Good morning Jeju-do!

Morning dew outside the Dress shop.
No, that's not the car ferrying us around Jeju =(

Upon reaching, was escorted to the makeup area where a whole range of Mac cosmetics laid on the dressing table.
I asked for bigger eyes and powder to make my face smaller!
Didn't seem to work though =(

Anyway, I always had reservations on curling my hair cause it makes me look old and fat so when they started curling, I sort of freaked out.
But I just kept telling myself to trust the Koreans! lolx!

My first hairdo.
Love the look behind but didn't like how my hair was all pinned up showing my humongous face!
Sadly, I had to bun up my hair throughout the photoshoot as there were strong wind in Jeju and I couldn't let down my hair without getting my face all covered in the shots.

Us, ready for the photo studio folks to pick us up.

Our ride to the Choyuen Studio.

The friendly photographer and videographer greeted us when we reached and we saw their beautiful pictures hung up on the walls and placed on the table tops.
They asked where we would like to shoot and we said Seopikoji + lighthouse + places with flowers & stressed that we are not keen on greenery cause we can get that in Singapore =P
That made it easy for them to strike out places and of course, they will highlight if the places are inaccessible or too far away (time consuming to travel).

Upon deciding on the outdoor venues, we headed upstairs for an indoor shoot
(via a lift! They have a lift in the studio!).
Was nerve wrecking to have so many pair of eyes on you striking the most unnatural poses =P
But it was a good warm up!

They taught us to respond to "Shin Lang" (Groom - sounds very much like 新郎 in Chinese) and "Shin Bu" (Bride - sounds quite Hokkien-ish =/). Quite hilarious as we took some time getting used to the terms.

The photographer asked which side of the face I prefer to be taken and I didn't know so I think he chose my left which now I think, isn't the better side =(
So brides, make sure you know which of your side profile looks better.

NB got a pleasant surprise as the staff brought him a pair of elevated shoes (key word is "elevated" cause NB brought along his normal flat office shoes there =P) and offered to let him wear FOC!
NB had expressed his interest during the dress tour but they mentioned that top up is required for shoes (grooms were told to bring their own).
And so we have a happy groom now!

Love the studio layout, look so fun!
It's about the size of a 2 4-room flat divided into different rooms with various themes and decor.

Halfway through the shoot however, it started to rain =(
They quickly made a few phone calls and their island peers told them that the eastern part of Jeju was cleared of rain.
So off we go, back in the van and headed east-wards.
Of course, everyone was fussing over the bride and groom to make sure we weren't caught in the rain and offering jacket if I'm cold.

Our photographer dropped by the florist and got us a bouquet of interesting flowers.
Not your typical roses, sunflowers or baby breath. Wished I know what flower/ plant this is.
Sadly, we left the bunch in the studios without bringing back! =(

After an outdoor shoot at a buckwheat field (apparently, buckwheat flowers bloom only for a very short period of time and we are lucky to be able to catch it!), we went to Seongsan area (very near Sunrise Peak) to have lunch!
The team treated us to a famous ramen stall along the sea and we slurped down the delicious spicy noodles filled with generous amount of Octopus and clams! 맛있는!
Seafood fresh from the sea, just across the road where the famous Jeju Women divers (Haenyo - "Sea Women") swim onshore with their hard-earned yield.

Shin Lang and Shin Bu at where the Locals eat!
See the scribbles of signatures behind?
Left by celebrities, personalities and tourists from various part of the world.
Not good to be eating while in a wedding gown at my wedding shoot but *Burps*...

Continued our way to Seopikoji, the beach and the lighthouse.
Changed into different gowns + casual wear in the car by putting the dresses over my head while pulling the other dress out from below. Not an easy task but I managed to!
The 2 assistant helped to change my hairstyles and touched up my face along the way.
I had a different look for each dress.

Some of the behind the scenes of us on the beach, playing with sand and water!
Our video should be quite hilarious for this! =P

Our photog hard at work.
It was super windy and I had to keep my short tulle skirt from flying!
Nevertheless, this was one, if not, my favourite look of the day.

We headed back to studio for another round of indoor shoot.
By then, we were all exhausted and NB had his contact lens missing from one eye. LOL.
The rest of the shoot, he was taking instructions blindly, literally, hur hur!
NB finally had some solo shots and he was super uneasy. haha!
Shin lang, relax! =P

Everyone clapped and we thanked all for their hard-work when the photographer announced that it was a wrap!
Just when I thought it was all over and headed to the room to change.
The 2 assistants followed me and sat me down on the chair, unpinned by hair, applied some hair softening serum, combed my dangled tresses and neatly tied them into a loose ponytail.
I thought that was a very neat touch to end off the whole experience. Makes you feel really pampered!

Just had to snap a shot with them:

The great team behind this memorable Photoshoot!
Our Make-up artist and helper, Yumi (the lady in front), the photographer & videographer cum driver!

Tired but awesome experience!
Cabbing back to the Hotel.

Admiring my Korean Makeup...
Looks better now as it oxidises. LOL
Love how natural it looks, even the fake lashes look real!
Too bad, didn't manage to "偷师" =/

Xin Ku ni le, my Xin Lang.... Looking completely shagged.

Thanks to the Wedding Ritz team for the help and looking forward to getting the photos!
=)
It takes about 2 weeks for photos to be sent to us for our selection.
Everything will then be sent to us within 3 months.
Should be able to get my stuff by January! =)
Will then wrap up the whole process and experience here! ;)

Tips:
- Be sure to have some places or sample images of where on the island you would like to take your pictures at. Run through their existing albums for more inspirations.
- Prepare some mosquito repellent if going outdoors (with lots of greenery), Jeju mozzies can be quite deadly.
- Grab something light before going to the shoot, you will be exhausted and hungry.
- Finding toilets can be a hassle + relieving yourself in a huge gown is super stressful, try to "release" before getting changed.
- Practise your smile at home, in front of the mirror before the shoot!
- Bring along any props that you would like to feature and inform the photographer of the intention early so he knows when and where to fit them in. (We brought along our proposal ring and wedding bands for the shoot and the photog did take some shots of it)
- Bring your camera/ phone so your translator can help to snap some behind the scenes which you can show your family and friends (optional) before the actual photos are ready.
- Relax and have fun!

And just for fun, ending off this post with NB's comical jump shot =D
