On this special day, he popped :)

NB has always tried to convince me that there's no need to propose since we already have a house but I know deep inside, my NB will still do it and even try to surprise me while doing it =D

Earlier this year, NB presented me with 2 tickets to Macau proclaiming that we will be going for a trip! Yay! Of course, he mentioned of a proposal there :P
Being such a thrifty guy, I naturally believed it was to "pop" there since he would have wanted to make it different from others as well!

So closer to "P" day, I was feeling under the weather due to work so NB told me to take half a day off so he can bring me out despite him going into quiz period.
Managed a snag a good day to take half day on 121011.
But on the morning itself, my mum told me NB came over to take something and said he's gonna surprise me.
So, his surprise plans sort of backfired here though I sort of already had some gut feel he is up to "no good" since it's unusual that he will ask me to take leave and plan the itinerary for the day...
WAhahahaha!
Still, I didn't know exactly what NB had in store for me :)

Met up with him at Vivo for lunch, he was slightly late!
We then went over to Sentosa and strolled aimlessly at Siloso beach.
Sat down at our old hangout spot and chatted while looking at the passing ships :)
Then, it began to rain and we went over to the Merlion area. That was where I told NB about what my mum said... Hehe!

Feeling upset but still refusing to say anything, we then strolled to RWS.
That's where he gave me a piece of paper with little sweet notes and ended with a question "Is love blind?"
Very apt as he took out an eye mask and "forced" me to wear it!
And so NB blind-folded me for an embarrassing short walk that seemed like ages...

The noisy surroundings then changed to one that is very quiet.
I remember hearing the sound of the lift opening and closing before walking a pretty long stretch of carpeted floor. Then we stopped as he went inside a door.

So finally, I removed the mask and I was standing in front of a hotel room's door.
A cute sticker was stuck on the door which asked of me to count down before opening the door with the card on my hand.

The room was pitched dark when I stepped inside.
With my natural reaction, I slotted the card in to on the light!
That's when NB had to stop me and I quickly took the card off to off the lights.

That's when I saw it.
A pathway lighted by glow-in-the-dark stickers guided me to the bed where the ring comfortably sits on a cushioned box with a warm ray of light shining on it.

Then my NB popped :)
It was a cute scene which makes my heart flutter.

And so, we stayed for a night at the place with clothes that NB brought along from my place.

11 July 2010 - Pretoria to Johannesburg
- World Cup 2010 Finals @ Soccer City Stadium

Not sure if it was because of the jet lag (FYI, SA is 6hrs behind our time)... we woke up damn early in the morning, bout 7?

Lazed around, watched cartoons (not much shows on the cable =( ) and head over to the restaurant for our breakfast...

According to the organisers, SONY requests for all guests to leave for their events 4 hours before it commences, thus, we had to prepare to set off early in the day...

It was quite a long ride to the stadium...
A little jam on the tiny road leading in to the stadium but all worth it when we saw the stadium in person!

As pointed out by NB, it looks like it's being superimposed against the landscape of SA.

A very impressive and grand piece of architecture they have there.
We really couldn't believe that we were at the place itself.
The stadium that millions around the world are setting their eyes on, on the very day itself =)

And of course, we can already hear the sounds of Vuvuzelas!

We were ushered to the hospitality suite for some food and drinks (again), chilling out and mingling with other guests while we wait for the stadium gates to open.

Good food, free flow of drinks to fill our stomachs.

With the lights and sounds of the famous African horns, we can feel the excitment brewing!

The atmosphere was amazing with supporters from both sides cheering, blowing and playing instruments in support of their favourite teams.

It seems like a common topic among people from all over the world that we've met...

We even watched a TV programme which calculated the amount of money which can be earned using 10 pounds to bet on Paul's prediction... Grand total of 9K pounds, about S$27K!

This came as a surprise as I merely wanted to zoom in on the trophy and he came into the picture.

Half time and the McDonald girls were out to entertain us...

Watching the match at the stadium was a whole new experience.
It was in a way, "quiet" as I was used to having a commentary to tell us a little something bout the players, their comments on the game... Basically, just, what exactly was happening on the field especially for novices like me :P
At the stadium, the only commentary I had was from the Holland guy beside me in a language which goes like this "this is F***ing #~!%&^*, off-side goal, F***ing foul, crap &*!#$"

I sat closer to NB the whole night...

And finally, thank goodness, at the 116 min
Spain scored the winning goal!!!

I thought I was going to be frozen in my seat cause it was a pathetic 1 deg celsius that night.
My hands were in my pocket most of the time and some video shots I took were damn shaky cause I was shivering.
A good way to burn my fats nevertheless!

Surprisingly, the place seemed to warm up a little when the match ended as everyone (except the guy beside me who left straight after the whistle went off) cheered and basked in the celebratory mood.

Oh, maybe the fireworks gave out some heat too =P

10 July 2010 - Singapore to Johannesburg

- Sony World Cup Finals Gala Dinner

Though we've won the tickets for some time, the actual excitement, anticipation kicked in only a few days prior to our departure.
Might be due to the tons of reports on the crime rate, violence etc that we came across.
Many have advised us on precautionary measures to make sure we return to our city safe and sound. Thanks all! :)

Nevertheless, we are pretty sure we will be fine since this trip is with compliments from Sony and believe they will do their part in making sure we are back in a piece.

And sure enough, we were superbly taken care of! ;)

After a day's work on Friday, rushed home, threw last bit of stuff into my luggage and we are off to the airport.
Been some time since I last took SQ, couldn't wait!
Our flight timings are good actually, we depart early Sat morning and will be reaching Jo'burg in the morning, their time. That means, no time wasted!

Our 2nd overseas trip (not counting M'sia)!

Hung around till it was time to board, at 1am+...

Our plane took off a little late though...
Total hours from S'pore to Jo'burg: 11! Phew!

NB wasn't too lucky cause his inflight entertainment console was out of service.
So, for the whole trip, he got to lean over to use mine while I slept.
(yes, he didn't wanna change seats with me)

So many vuvuzelas! *Buuuuuuuu*

Was afraid Sony guys couldn't find us/ we couldn't find them initially.
But no, there was an army of Sony staff, we won't be lost!

The process was pretty smooth and we were quickly escorted to our vehicle, to the hotel.
We also met our security guy and someone from Sony who chatted with us along the way...

The airport we arrived at was in Jo'burg but we had to travel some 40km to Pretoria, also a city within the Gauteng province of SA, where our hotel is situated.
Wowed by the vast piece of land we see on the way to the hotel, we were wondering what Singapore would do should we have so much land available?

As we chatted, we learnt that Sony has actually invited over 3,000 guests (the likes of us) and 3,000 staff all over the world to the WC matches.
Let's take the average cost per pax to be S$10K with lodging, flight, match tickets, food, security officers etc included.
That would be... how many zeroes?
It's not just money, imagine the amount of planning, logistics that's going on just so this will be a success. Kudos to them!

We reached Court Classique Suite Hotel with a warm welcome from the hosts.

We were ushered to the Sony Hospitality Suite while they brought our luggage to the room.

In there, we can make ourselves at home and help ourselves to the free flow of food and drinks, all day long ;)

There, we were also presented with our Sony Guest pass, Sony gift pack and a vuvuzela with compliments from the hotel!

This is how the hotel's surrounding is like...
They've got ducks wandering around and we got to becareful not to step on their poop.
Pity we can't use the pool cause it's damn cold!
Court Classique is not your typical 4-5 star posh hotel but you will definitely feel like home, very cosy with many many friendly staff. :)

As it was still early, we popped by the nearby mall, Brooklyn Mall with new found friends from Washington D.C. and NYC. Interesting how we get to meet people from all over the globe through one trip huh?

Honestly, there wasn't much things to buy but we did manage to get some interesting flavoured chips that we don't see in Singapore to share.
Random: Looking at the pics above, don't you just love the sky there?

This trip alone cost us S$20 each just on transportation!!

Interesting!: Speaking about the transport in SA, because their country is huge and their public transport network isn't well developed, it's really not very convenient to travel from one area to another.

Just taking the hotel for example, the subway/train station is about 5-8km or so away.So you probably need to take a cab to the station before taking the train?

And for a staff who lived about 3km down the road, he had to take a bus to the central of the city and switch to another transport back to the hotel, making a huge detour!

Maybe we should be more forgiving towards our local public transport providers...

Hmm...

After much grumbling about the expensive trip to the mall, we had to get ready for the Gala Dinner.

And I swear we had a close encounter with the Spain Footballers cause our bus was passing by a hotel with tons of fans awaiting at the entrance. And in front of the entrance stands the official Spain footballers' coach bus.
They were no where in sight when we left... =(Pity =(

Before the dinner, we had to go through this 3D presentation which is actually Sony's chance to present to us their latest 3D technology brought to our homes...

I would have to say this really brings a whole new meaning to "Home Entertainment".
Can you just imagine wathching live football matches in 3D?
You can with Sony, as the images practically jump into your face and you can feel just as if you were in the stadium yourself!
Would love to get 1 in my home but I believe the price ain't low. :(
Being a Sony fan isn't cheap :P

Coincidentally, 2 of the Singaporeans sitting at our table is actually of the same age as well (all 1986s) and they know my colleague as they've worked with them before. How crazy is this? Getting linked up half a globe away!

All of us were given a complimentary offical WC soundtrack featuring Sony artistes like Shakira.And of course, we had some really good food served.

Well, first up, exciting exciting!

Guess I would have to start off with something that I sort of told Sony that I would do...
To blog about this whole experience.

Never have I thought that I'll be flying off to watch the World Cup happen right before my very eyes. Woots! How cool is that right? ;)

Embarking on this amazing trip with my dearest NB this coming Saturday morning (10 July), to another continent! Hur Hur!
And Kudos to Sony, we are flying on pretigous SQ!
On the side note, NB and I have checked out the latest movie titles on flight... most likely watching Bounty Hunter! Hope I'm awake enough to complete the movie though! =X

Oh! We are so going to get the Vuvuzelas, though I've been kindna irritated by the buzzing sound during the match... But it won't be irritating if you are the one blowing it right??! =D
I call that embracing SA culture! ;)

Despite the numerous criminal reports bout SA, am keeping fingers crossed that we will be back safe and sound. :)

Merry Christmas Eve everyone!

Simply love Christmas Eve cuz the half day at work is usually spent exchanging presents, sending one another season greetings!

Lots of chocolates and together with the few logcakes I had in the past few days...

but so, I got the leftover BOOST bars...

Anyway, this year, our new boss sponsored some gifts and together with our merchants' hampers, we each had a chance at a Xmas Lucky Draw :)
No luck at the top prizes (including 2 sets of $100 Taka Vouchers :( )
and I got myself a box of Choc Biscuits with a bottle of Red wine...

Nothing expensive though..

After the much anticipated lucky draw, we set off for our department Christmas Lunch at Marina Sq!
Had our group gift exchange and coincidentally, ah Fun and I picked each other!

Got my long wanted ETUDE HOUSE nail polish.
Woohoo!! Time for some blink blink fingers :)
Speaking of which, Boss mentioned that she wanted to bring in some manicurists to pamper all of us, girls, during the CNY period.
Hope it pulls through... Happening man! :)

It started with a few weeks of gathering for discussion on hen's night, corsage-material hunting, gate-crashing ideas, K-box cum hen's night session and items sourcing the night before...

The solemnisation that day ended in the evening and we proceeded to the hotel room to rest our tired self. Headed to Toa Payoh for our dinner at Crystal Jade and KOI's bubble tea (the reason we left Orchard for TP)!

The zombie-fied us managed our way back to the hotels (The Regent & Royal Plaza on Scotts) for a good nights' rest. :)

Finally laid my hands on The Sims 3, all thanks to NB.

The thing about these games... addictive. And yes, I've been playing it for the past 3 days of the much awaited break (from work)!

After 2 resets to my virtual Sims life, I finally built a decent amount of wealth, knowledge (logic etc), personality (charisma etc) and fame to continue my virtual family line. i.e. to "woohoo" and "try for baby" in Sims terms. :P

It was satisfying to see my virtual house, wealth and... "tummy" expanding! :P It was the peak of my Sims life! Built swimming pool, playground, car lots, upgraded my furniture... It was all exhilarating until the game met with some technical bug and everything became very laggy :( Upset!

After a few futile tries to get my Sims cracking, decided to create another family. Miraculously, it worked. But this time round, I had to restart everything. No huge swimming pool, no full bars of "logic" and "charisma" skills :( Being all lazy, I decided to take the easy way out... Sims *ahem* Che*t codes. With the extra amount of Simoleons (currency unit), I bought over all the businesses in town, rebuilt my house, splurge on the most luxurious items and had moolahs to feed 3 kids.

As I sit facing my lavishly furnished virtual house with my Sims enjoying every single item I bought for them, I realised, I didn't know how to continue playing.

It dawned on me that my objectives and goals in the game have been reached, with no effort at all. I was stumped as I tried clicking around, trying to figure out what I should do next (despite the fact that the Sims adults are jobless, children have got some tasks at hand, the wife is hungry, the toddler soiled his pants...)

NB reminded me that I didn't know how to continue because all these little successes gotten with the help of the Che*t code were not results of my effort. The previous game which I spent hours on, got me playing non-stop, made me strive to finish what I set out to do.

I guess this is life. How many times have we taken things that were given to us for granted? Countless I guess. Life blessed us with good family, friends, loved ones and great health. Never mind bout little imperfections here and there... We ought to be appreciative.

Many a times, we wished we were born with a silver spoon. Would I have the same mindset as right now if I am born like that? I am grateful that my family was able to raise me up decently without us having to worry too much (note: too much) about monetary issues. And I am also glad that I was made to pay my own education fees and expenses after secondary school. This probably made me become aware of my finances and inculcate the idea of working hard for what I want. At least I can proudly say I have worked hard and paid off my education fees (ok, not now but in a month's time?), Credit card bills, got my driving license and helped with the household bills/housing loan.

My NB probably taught me a lot too, without both of us realising it. He's a good example of what a tough childhood can do to mould someone into one who works hard for who he is or who he would like to be. Though right now, we may be without a car, we don't dine at classy restaurants, we don't shower ourselves with extravagant items and neither do we have weekly popcorn nights out... I know it will be satisfying to watch us build up our real-life portfolio of wealth, knowledge, personality and family (shy!) in time to come. Just like my virtual Sims - but no bugs when we are at our peaks please!!!

To NB: Good luck on this new phase of your life! 3 years will be over in a wink! :)

Had a splendid 6th Anni Celebration with my dearest just yesterday!

Day 6 - Macau

We are closer to reality now that it's the last day of our trip :(
Sobs.

After our satisfying breakie, we went to explore the place again...
And of course, to board the famous Gondola ride =)

He shared with us how he and his fellow colleagues came over to the resort from the original Sands resort...
We too, shared with him how the construction of Singapore's Marina Bay Sands is coming along...

Day 5 - Hong Kong & Macau

It was our last day in Hong Kong :(
Since we are catching the afternoon ferry to Macau, we took a walk around Mongkok after our breakie...

Couldn't even get my hands on the packet noodles for the last time!

Anyway, everyone was given almond cookie samples, egg roll with pork floss and there were these people who cut strips of Bak Kua on the spot with a scissors and distribute to everyone who walked pass.
We didn't have our lunch but had our fill from eating these samples...
For your info, these samples are not pieces chopped up into pathetically tiny bits and offered to customers... Their samples are huge whole pieces of cookies!
And er... even bigger than those prepacked pieces that we bought home =/
No choice la, freshly made ones are for sampling, we can only buy prepacked ones
Nevertheless, the had pretty fierce competition but its good for consumers :P
Nv tried almond cookies that came out straight from the oven before and I simply dig it!! :)

Day 2 - Tung Chung, Central - Lan Kwai Fong

After a good night's rest, we made our way to another part of HK, Lantau Island.

Took the train to Tung Chung...

That's when I thought "Hey! We should alight at Sunny Bay and I'll bring NB for a ride on Disney train!"
Since there's no need to pay extra, we quickly dropped and transferred to the Disney Train!

This place, as I read, is a dedication to the Heart Sutra (The Perfection of the Wisdom of the Buddha)
This, a prayer, very much regarded by Taoist and Buddhists alike.
Interestingly, the bamboo tiles are placed in a shape of the number "8" which means "infinity"

I actually like this place...
Unexplainable sense of serenity...
Reminds me of those scenic views when traveling around China...

Back to where we came from...

Bus 23 from Tung Chung to Ngong Ping and back~
Figured it's a more cost effective and time saving way to take cable up and bus back to the bottom - Tung Chung :)

Those who've been to HK would have learnt about City Gate Shopping Centre (with all the outlet stores)
We didn't wanna give this a miss and thus, we spent the remaining of the afternoon shopping.
:)
And then, we were back to HK Island, Central.

Day 1 - Arrival - Macau & Hong Kong

The day has finally arrived!
We are flying for our getaway =)

At 4+am on 20 February 2009...

Our flight was at 6.05am and thus, managed to catch sunrise on board =)

Rai Lei Hotel!

Though small (well, what can you expect in HK?), the rooms are cosy and comfortable.
Definitely worth the money, especially when all we need is a place to bathe and sleep :)

Quickly dropped our luggage, contacted our family in Sg and we were off to explore HK!

You can find lots of cheap electronics in Sham Shui Po...
Do check out Golden Computer arcade where there are tons of IT stuff, just like our Sim Lim Sq!
We were surprised to find really cheap IT stuff there...

Had to recall something 3 years back?

Thought it was a good showcase of Hong Kong to tourists all around the world...
Good use of lighting and music... Would definitely recommend it to those going HK :)

Spent the rest of our first night at Temple Street...

Had our late dinner and traveled to another part of Temple Street that I did not go to the last time!
Seems like we missed quite a lot previously!

Anyway, Temple Street has became more vibrant since the last visit... :)
More people, more stalls and more things to look at.

Enjoyed walking through the lanes with NB!
Ended the day at about 11plus and headed back to the hotel.

Food Special

The agony of traveling to the same country for a holiday
- to try out new dishes OR
- to reminisce the good old goodies on the first trip there
We can only eat 3 meals a day!!

Since it's our first overseas trip and NB's debut in HK, I brought him to try some of the items worth savoring!!

Ratings will remain tagged against 10 dim sums.

Flew to Macau but did not grab any munchies along the way and traveled to HK!

Stop 1: HONG KONG - Argyle Centre's packet noodles

Dropped our bags at the hotel and made our way to the nearby Argyle Centre (Mongkok) to find the packet noodle store!
There's a total of 3 stores which sells this.
The 1st stall located at level 1 is the most expensive, 2nd stall was on the top level at the other side of the building which I didn't manage to find initially. Ended up at this 3rd stall located at a little corner.

The guy asked in Cantonese if I want small or medium Spicy.
I said medium cuz I thought the range of spiciness would be S -> M -> L (most spicy).
Little did I know that medium is probably the cap and it is THIS spicy...
My stomach was empty and by the time this packet went in, I was full from the burning in my tummy and mouth.
Pretty shiok as what NB mentioned but I would bear in mind to order small spice if I ever purchase this again (from the same stall).

Seasoning: slightly salty, the spice prob covered the taste of the ingredients.

Price: HKD 5
Rating: 6/10 dim sums

Stop 2: Sham Shui Po - Street side Store

Red Bean Cake or Put Chai Ko

This store along Apliu Street sold this little puddings alongside other traditional snack like water chestnut cake.
NB has been wanting to try this so we just had to get some!
Too bad these are prepacked into little carriers unlike those we see on TV where they are often held up by bamboo sticks.

A little too sweet for my liking but it's definitely fun to eat. At least, NB likes it!
Pretty chewy with bits of red beans. Definitely a likable dessert for those with sweet tooth.

Rating: 6.5/10 dim sums

Stop 3: Hing Kee Claypot rice @ Yau Ma Tei, Temple Street

This was the eatery I patronised with the 3 "aunties" the last time.
It has expanded since and now occupies a good 3-4 store size and taking up most of the road space with their makeshift tables and chairs.

Very old school Coke bottle that was eventually "kop- ed" Opps...
NB and I were wondering if they refilled these bottles themselves as these seems to be discontinued already but apparently not. They serve new bottles with unopened lids for all customers.

Light soy sauce is used, thus, not as flavourful as the Singapore version (usually mixed in with thick dark soy sauce).
But I definitely love the rice crust stuck at the side of the claypot.
Crunchy crunchy!
Credits go to the chicken as it was chunky and juicy. It will be good if they remove the skin but it will definitely affect the taste of the dish as it would be dry without the skin/oil.

Price: HKD 30-40
Rating: 7.5/10 dim sums

Stop 4: Mister Softee Van along Temple Street

I didn't know Mister Softee 富豪雪糕 was so popular until I saw it on wikipedia!
Heads up from Yee Fun that her bf loved this ice cream.
Gave it a try even though I could feel the cold breeze blowing onto my face.

Mister Softee's softee was indeed soft (LOL), just like those soft serve ice cream you find in Japanese eatery.
Has a very strong milky taste, just like full cream milk in solid form.

Price: HKD 6 or 7 (can't recall exactly)
Rating: 7/10 (made me feel pretty guilty as I taste the fattening full cream milk)

Stop 5: Vegetarian meal @ Po Lin Monastery, Tung Chung

The all familiar restaurant that hasn't changed a bit!

Corn Soup, Fried Popiah, Vege with mushroom, corn tofu and another vege dish.

As there were only the two of us, we had one short of dish as compared to the last time I visited and that dish was actually good! :(

Well, this time round, I learnt to better appreciate the corn tofu dish. Enjoyed it more than the last time but found the soup too be a tad bland.
The fried popiah was still enjoyable due to the crunchy texture but wasn't as flavourful as the previous try. =(

Overall, a fulfilling dish and we couldn't even finish the rice! heir serving was pretty generous.

Price: HKD120 for 2 pax
Rating: 8/10 dim sums for the generous portion

Stop 6: Wonton Store along Wellington Street, Central

Having taken a look at Lan Kwai Fong, we scouted around for a place for dinner.
Wanted to try one popular dish in Hong Kong - Wonton Mee!

Sounds like what we can get in Singapore, but...
The version in HK is soupy, doesn't include char siew and consists of huge wontons with chunks of prawn meat (not pathetic sheets of wanton skin or tiny dabs of meat amidst huge sheets of wanton skin).

Sort of stumbled into this eatery as most of them were closed by the time we planned to have our dinner.

Tried 2 different versions - Wonton and fish meat balls.
The wontons given are huge and contains succulent and crunchy prawns.
The fish balls are more like fish meat paste chunks, very dense and moist.

Noodles are pretty springy though the soup has a little too much of the "yellow noodle" taste
See the plate of vege with oyster sauce? Only cost an additional S$1+
Hiak! I need my greens!!

Price: HKD50 for all
Rating: 8.5 (kudos to generous portion and yummy wontons!)

Stop 7: Mongkok street food 街頭熟食


Just check out the variety!
Would love to try each and every type! Eh, except those scary looking pig innards...

Woohoo! I missed the century egg snack! I don't see it anywhere in Sg and thought it really taste good. The century egg is wrapped around fish cake paste, deep fried and served drenched in sweet chili sauce. Sinful but delightful!

The little curried fishballs (yu dan 魚旦) are so fun to eat!
Skewered in bamboo sticks, these little balls are very chewy and pretty much addictive.
Personally, I thought these roadside skewer siew mais have got nothing to rave about. Could have ordered other goodies instead.

Here comes the ultimate delicacy (depending on how you look at it)
NB had a bite and it seemed pretty torturous.. Hehe...
They say, the more your eat, the better it tastes. I do agree to a certain extend. The more you consume, the more the smell numbs you and you slowly enjoy the crispy crunch of the fried tofu.
Some may beg to differ...
Well, I guess you can always put more chili sauce to cover up the pungent taste. =P

Rating: 8.5 (I love street food! So fun to eat!)

Stop 8: Xu Liu Shan

How can anyone miss out Xu Liu Shan? Besides, it's everywhere!!
As the weather was pretty cold the first 2 days, there wasn't much of chance to grab a cold drink like those offered at this dessert chain.

Finally had a chance to sit down proper at an outlet near our hotel to try out the most famous and popular dessert chain in HK.

The mango bits, sauce and sorbet was fresh, thick and very refreshing.
Unlike Singapore's desserts where you get chunks of ice shavings, this had generous portion of the fruit.
Love! Definitely a dessert loved by all!

Price: HKD30
Rating: 8.5 (was pretty costly for a dessert but quality was definitely there!)

Stop 9: Hai Jing Cha Chan Teng @ Mongkok

It's a pleasant surprise that we managed to find this Cha Chan Teng!
I still remember the nice nice You Tiao when I came with the "aunties"!
I didn't remember the route to the cafe as it was an random pick 3 years back... =)

We met an interesting ang moh here and chatted quite a fair bit after we assisted him in placing his favourite congee order.
He has been traveling alone for the past months and plans to continue doing so in the next 1 -2 months. The thing is, he's not even sure where he's going next.
Wonder what he does for a living... How nice would it be if I'm able to be traveling round the globe with no monetary worries etc...
Talked bout Casinos and Steve Wynn...
As the saying goes...

This ang moh was pretty humorous with tons of exaggerated hand gestures!
We taught him how to order fully boiled egg...

It's always good to meet people like him when you are overseas in a foreign land...
People from different background, with all sorts of personalities, goals and with different stories to tell...
=)

Nevertheless, these are what we had...
Congee, Char Siew CCF, You Tiao, Milk Tea and Yuan Yang.
The congee was flavourful, CCF was smooth (thou char siew in it contained quite a lot of fats =( ), you tiao was still as crispy and deli!
Beverage wise, we thought it was normal.
My yuan yang was bitter but no worries cuz I would prefer to stir in the qty of sugar I want so it wouldn't be too sweet =)

Stop 10: Mido Cafe @ Temple Street, Yau Ma Tei

This is probably one of the must try stop in my HK itinerary cuz I missed the famous pork rib rice baked rice!

Located at Temple Street, this retro cafeteria has gained raves from magazines, travel guides etc.
For me, I simply love the feel of this place, looks just like those typical cha chan teng you see in HK drama.
This is my 2nd time there and it seems there are more youngsters working there now (and I don't see the old uncle anymore =/), they speak Chinese and even English... thus, no language barrier! Is this part of commercialising? hmm...

Familiar? A scene in "Jiu dian Feng Yun" was filmed here...

It may look plain but it really tasted good!
The "dan chao fan" was fragrant and had a good crisp as it was baked before serving.
The sauce was sweet but yet not too "ja lat", similar to our sweet and sour pork.
Would appreciate if there wasn't too many bones in it =P

Stop 11: Modern Toilet @ Mongkok, opp Langham Place

Heard so much about this themed restaurant in Taiwan...
Glad they has a franchise in HK (a new one in fact) so I asked NB if we can go eat shit together! =)

Stop 12: Lin Hueng Restaurant in Wellington Street, Central

Brought NB to the popular Dim Sum place where you can see old school trolley pushing dim sum ladies and ah peks sitting around in the morning, yum cha-ing while reading their papers.

Beancurd skin with meat and mushroom, Lian Rong bao with salted egg...
The former was very juicy! Yum.. love anything with beancurd skin =)
The lian rong bao was good even thou I don't take salted egg.
NB love having salted egg in there just like how he like his mooncake to be.

Dumplings with glutinous rice...
Couldn't make out what was inside initially.
Quite a fresh combi and liked the taste of it.
However, the skin was a little too thick...

I regretted ordering CCF as I was damn full from it la!
NB doesn't like CCF and thus, I had to finish it =(
The rice sheet was too thick so I just finished the prawn filling inside..

NB was pretty brave as he actually ordered Pig's stomach!
For your info, both of us are not fans of Pork...
Thus, I did not try...

Soft and fragrant Char Siew Bao~
A little fatty but it tasted good!
Not forgetting juicy prawn filled Siew mais to end off our dim sum spread!

Every time we order a "long", the dim sum ladies will stamp on the sheet.

Rating: 8/10 (thought the standard has dropped since the last time and the dim sum ladies were not very friendly... =/ Nice atmosphere nevertheless)

Stop 13: Tai Cheong Bakery, Central

Just around the corner of Lin Hueng is this bakery famous for its egg tarts.

We bought 13 of them and guess what?
We had 1 free.. Hur hur~
NB was delighted when we discovered that in our hotel room while trying to pack them inside our newly bought containers.

The tarts are best while eaten hot!
The egg filling was aromatic while texture was quite runny...
The buttery crust was soft and it was nearly melting in my mouth.

Rating: 8.5/10

Stop 14: Yee Soon Milk Pudding along Nathan Road

Finally landed our feet at Yee Soon!

Must not miss out his cooling dessert!
It's smooth and it just simply slides down your throat!

I'm still amazed at how it's made...
I remember buying a packet of milk pudding powder in HK the last time and tried making my own (following the instructions on the pack of course!) but it didn't work! =(

Loved this, especially the chocolate one! Keke...

Stop 15: Argyle Centre's packet noodles Store 2

Told NB I must get my hands on the noodles again, especially after the first purchase on day 1 (Stop 1) was disappointing due to excessive amt of chili.

The quantity seemed to have reduced but I still enjoyed eating it!
Slightly salty and oily but I just like the concept of this!
Wonder why it didn't come to Singapore... =/

Price: HKD10 (cuz I mixed 6 packs! hehehe)

Stop 16: Mongkok Street Food

Tako Balls!
They used seaweed instead of fish flakes.
Not too bad but I would prefer fish flakes.
I must compliment the qty of the octopus bits though...
Much more than what you get in Sg!

We went back to the same cha chan teng for other HK must try!

Had macaroni soup and peanut butter toast with condensed milk.
Enjoyed the macaroni soup but the toast was nothing fantastic.
We can actually toast it on our own at home =P

Stop 18: MACAU: McDonalds and Senado Sq Pork Chop Bun

NB's Spicy Grilled Chicken Burger set with twister fries.
This is something new on the menu in HK and Macau.

NB loved this!! And I must agree, it's good...
The chunk of chicken meat (not patty) was drenched in some spicy sauce which was not too thick or peppery (unlike Sg's prosperity burger).
NB was pretty upset we didn't manage to "Ta-bao" any on our last day as we were stuck in Venetian all day...
Though Venetian did have a Mac outlet, the price was way more expensive than those Mac outlets you find outside... =/

I had a try at what Macau is famous for - Zhu Pa bao...
It was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and it really complements the toasted bun well.
Pity there wasn't any vege and thus, tasted a little dry.

Rating: 9/10 (NB still misses the Mac burger... Keke)

Stop 19: Cafe Deco @ Venetian

Had our complimentary buffet breakfast on the last day of trip...

The spread was pretty good and I love the eggs! =)
I just love eggs (especially those found at this kind of hotel breakfast buffet), all kind!
Scrambled, sunny side...
Thought the Belgian waffles are pretty good as well!
Crispy crispy!!
Dip them in chocolate sauce or maple syrup.. Slurps!

They actually had smoked salmon but it didn't taste good (for me at least)...
Thought it was quite fishy... Not fresh?

Stop 20: Macau International Airport Cafeteria

This definitely does not do justice to the famous Macau Portuguese Egg tarts.
A pity that we didn't tried those typical Macau bakery's Portuguese egg tarts as our time spent there was limited. Only managed to try it as we wait to check in at the airport.
Bought the tarts at an exorbitant price... and it was cold and hard... =(

This is the first stop as part of our 3hours + drive to KL, Malaysia.

A "pleasant" surprise indeed.

Arrived at Cititel Mid Valley near midnight and checked in to our tiny hotel room, to be shared with Sis and Jie Fu...

Woke up early the next morning for our breakie at the hotel eatery.

The typical hotel breakfast spread but not too bad...

Beats having the pathetic piece of A&W chicken... =P

After breakie, drove 2hrs up to Genting despite the rain!

Thus, could only stay indoors at First World Hotel...

Venetian also has this boat ride! Looking forward to our trip to Macau! :)

You get the "suan la, suan la" feeling just like Thai's Tom yum.

The noodles are like long strands of "mee tai mak" or "rat flour (lao shu fen... hahaha)"

The Gula Melaka drizzled generously on top of the crushed ice is fragrant and thick, unlike our local syrup-y Gula Melaka...
Sis tried their Mango Ice-kacang which was pretty good as well.
Had the sweet smell of fresh mango...
Very refreshing desserts indeed!

Of cuz, in Malacca, how can anyone not try their famous chicken rice?

Unfortunately, the eatery which had lots of raves was too packed. So we have to settle for a less crowded one.

Very fun to eat though nothing really fantastic... I feel...

Overall, the trip, though tiring (thou not as tired as my jie fu who shuttled us to and fro - esp during the 3hrs long ride from Sg to KL), was quite a fruitful one.

It's the experience that counts.

At least, I can say I've been to Genting before, though much later than everybody else...

Boss brought all 18 of us for a Christmas Lunch today...

Which means about 2 hrs (excluding a normal 1hr lunch period) off from office~

Woohoo!

If only we can have more such lunches... Hiak hiak...

Went to RSVP at the Park @ Park Hotel since they are one of our merchant and had MB card promo with free flow of drinks out of goodwill...

But sadly, the spread was pretty bad... sob...

Was awaiting a scrumptious festive feast but...

Oh well...

At least they managed to hold all 19 of us...

This year, there are quite a number of new additions including the RMs who were seconded to our dept.

It's rare to see the whole group of us lunching together :P

Still, it was a pretty cosy place and a nice atmosphere...

Had fun laughing at our silly chat on the latest TV serials... -_-

Boss made a tiny speech bout how the economy is and how hard we have all worked for the campaign etc... and it seems this year was really the toughest with plenty of ups and downs...

Couldn't agree more...

It's just terrible...

Glad we've finished the campaign and whether the management is satisfied with the results and awareness we have gained...

*shrugs*

BAH! Anyway!

We had our little gift exchange and boss made us announce 1 of our new year resolution before we can get our gifts...

Pretty cute and so much fun listening to each and every one's resolutions...

From simple ones like cutting down on spending to ambitious ones like studying Masters to desperate pleas like getting married and getting pregnant

(and even, not to get pregnant!! Make a guess who would make such a wish... -_-)

haha...

Well, mine were none of the above of cuz (or maybe just the reducing spending one?)...

I just hope to get my driving license... Still stuck at it...

Well, guess it's time soon...

to look back on 2008 and welcome 2009 with new resolutions!

Shall review my past year performance in the next couple(if there is any) of posts~

Meanwhile, I will just enjoy this holiday season with gatherings with family and friends.

Cdians celebrated my 2* birthday at Marina Sq!

I shall just put 2* for the future birthdays to come... Hur hur...

It was a celebration at Marina Sq... Coincidentally, the mall Chummies celebrated at too!

Haven't met them for some time and we actually had the gathering in the afternoon...

Definitely haven't spent so much time together since ages... =P

Settled at Pasta De Waraku but unfortunately, it wasn't to our expectation...

Price was too high for the quantity of pasta...

Everyone was shocked at the pathetic portion...
